Welp, I dun went and made a Gravity Falls livejournal community.

I know shows like this don't generally do so well on livejournal, but it's got a really enormous following on tumblr after only six episodes, and there seem to be plenty of people talking about it on their own journals, so...

It's pretty good so far. The characters are well-rounded and likable, and there are already hints of an overarching plot. Good for Disney, to be letting this show on their channel.

All U.S. Internet Providers will be policing downloads by July 12, 2012

Warning for typical generic signalboost crap incoming.

According to this article, dated March 15, 2012:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/webnews/major-isps-turn-into-copyright-police-by-july-says-riaa/

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly.

Fox news confirms this:

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while. Honestly, I'm a little embarrassed of my old posts here. Younger me is kind of immature and dumb, and I don't really like dumb immature people much.

Been continuing to play Last Spectre. Still getting the sense of self-aware weirdness from it. The player characters acknowledge how weird some of the NPCs are. There is a museum director who talks in nothing but cat noises. I'm on the chapter where Emmy is the POV character instead of Layton. She's a pretty fun character. Usually I don't like Action!KungFoo!Grrrls, but Emmy manages to play the trope of "athletic, tomboyish but conventionally attractive girl/woman" in a non-obnoxious manner.

Watched the Tintin movie. It was actually pretty enjoyable, both story and aesthetics. I wonder how they managed to so deftly avoid the uncanny valley...

I've been wanting to get into Gegege no Kitaro, but outside of Hakaba Kitaro (which claims to be a direct adaptation of the much darker original manga, but certain aspects of it (like the Neko arc) seem suspicious to me), nobody seems interested in translating any of the anime series in full, or in scanlating the manga. Since most of the anime series outside of Hakaba Kitaro seem to be continuations of each other, I think it would be nice to watch the b&w 60's anime that was the earliest anime version. Of course, nobody would ever do that, just like nobody wants to sub The Amazing Three to make up for the 60's dub of it that we lost.

I'm taking an art class for my interom class. It's pretty fun.

Have been watching Mawaru Penguindrum. Pretty interesting, though it's getting more and more disturbing moments. Found it easier to get into than Utena. It's got allot of allusions to a particular Japanese author that are hard for non-japanese to miss. Maybe the eventual dub's DVD should come with a guide to all the allusions in the series.

Watched Madoka Magica months ago, never mentioned it here. Pretty good. People who say it is THE BEST ANIME and THE DEEPEST SHOW are deludin themselves, but it adresses alot of the things that bothered me about other magical girl series. Also despite being seinen, it has some fun commonalities with Princess Tutu, including mentors whose ultimate goal is to induce misery for fun or profit, allusions to european folklore and literature, and the magical girls essensially being powered by forbidden heart/soul magic. (You could easily say that Princess Tutu is powered by Mythos' soul gem, or that the puella magi are powered by their own heart shards.) I like that both series make it so that tranformation charms aren't cheap, easy magic.

Watching some of Persona 4 the Animation. Consensus of the internet is that any anime with "the animation" in its name is going to be kind of bland. So far it's just a cliffsnotes' summary of the game plot, with very few real attempts to flesh out the characters. The best parts are probably the shadow battles, if only because that seems to be the only area where innovation is actually taking place.

Started playing Last Specter. Is it just me, or is this PL game more self-aware than previous ones? Emmy comes across as Level-5 trying to correct all the mistakes they made when they created Flora. Love how she listed all the information she researched about Layton, right down to his star sign, and how Layton was kind of bamboozled by that. The storytelling and visual presentation have improved, but I Am Dissapoint concerning the puzzles. Giving the player more puzzles to solve does not make up for the fact that most of those puzzles are stupidly easy.

The pony equivalent of Halloween is about preventing canibalism from the pony equivalent of Lucifer. Brony culture getting is kind of dull, but the show itself can be a thing of beauty even when it does forget continuity. My little pony's always been kind of a cracky canon, it's just that now it finally has interesting characters to enact the crack.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuug why was Livejournal acting so weird. I wasn't able to even get on the site until, like, yesterday.

I've been marathoning the new scooby doo cartoon. Why doesn't this have a bigger fandom? All the comms dedicated to it are nearly dead, with less than five comments for every post. I want crazy speculation about what will happen next season, damnit!

This seems to be the most common kind of color deck. The minimum number of changes are made to the colors of the suits.

I've seen this style of color deck apear several times before in fiction, but Wikipedia doesn't even seem to know it exists. I like it, personally. Perhaps because it follows the Natural Color System, and thus apeals to my artristic sensibilities more? Idk.

This German color deck is designed so that the french suits more closely their traditional german counterparts (spades=leaves, diamonds=bells, clubs=acorns, hearts are the same).
